Graham Lee and I (Bill Gidley) are both members of the Rotary Club of Romsey Test. Both of us enjoy taking part in Rotary Club cycle rides but in recent years I have found that my deteriorating eyesight has made solo riding on unknown roads more difficult. So now I am reduced to being the mere engine on a tandem! ... well thankfully it's a lot more fun than that. The "Down the Rhine" trip will be our second major expedition on the tandem. In 2006 we cycled from Lands End to John O'Groats. The story of that ride can be found by clicking the LE-JOG page. On the Lands End to John O'Groats ride we raised over £7,000 for charity. It's an achievement of which we are very proud and to cap it all the ride was enormous fun. If you cycle seriously, it is a must-do ride and seeing the UK in that way is simply fantastic. So now we are off down the Rhine ... well it seemed like a good idea at the time. The ride starts in Andermatt, Switzerland , and ends just beyond Rotterdam at the Hook of Holland. Roughly 1500 km (850 miles) we believe. This time our charities will be "Gift of Sight" and "Romsey Young Carers", see the charities page for more details. Please sponsor us as these charities do tremendous work and need your support. In the meantime we will be busy training to get prepared for the roughly 70 miles a day which we need to do, so if you see us while you are out driving, give us a friendly toot.
